96 1100 which did not start last fall when I quickly had to tuck it in for winter while I was out of town. Last week, I put in the new battery and starting cranking. It turned over and coughed only. I removed the air cleaner cover to allow more air to join the system. Holy crap! The bike fired right up and began to puke fuids out of the air box. I disconnected the breather tube from the air box and pointed it out ward and started the bike again and again fluid gushing from the tube directly connected to the crankcase. Upon further inspection this was mostly gas mixed with oil. HHHMMMM?
I noticed the sight glass was full and this is not good, so I pulled the drain plug and gasy oil flows out of the bottom end!. I put the plug back in and cranked it over a few times and the sight glass instantly filled up again.
What and how is the fuel getting into the bottom end? I have the kawi manual and do not see a direct line from an overflow to the crankcase.
I have pulled the carbs and am doing a rebuild while I(we) ponder this.
It looks like you have a
It looks like you have a small leak in your petcock and the carb float valve(s). It is probably nothing to worry about if you use the bike often but during winter time the gas can seep through the petcock to the float bowls (it only takes a small leak in one of 4 float valves) and in to a cylinder through an intake valve.
I would change the oil and test the petcock for leaks. (With engine off and the petcock in "ON" position it shouldn't allow any gas out).
Tanks alot!
I just finished a quicky carb rebuild with only new bowl o-rings replaced. I dismantled and cleaned all parts and my #3 was very dirty. I reinstalled and the bike caught and fired right up and the sight glass levels did not move. I am puttting some fresh oils in in the morning and I should be good to go!
